Ross Memorial Hospital began serving the residents of Victoria County in 1902.
It was recognized as one of the best-equipped hospitals in Ontario. Today,
with over 100 years of service, it is still recognized as a leader in health
care. With its emphasis on the community and quality patient care, Ross Memorial
Hospital has become a full-service community hospital, serving a growing population
of close to 80,000, comprised of residents from the City of Kawartha Lakes
and surrounding communities.
Currently, the Hospital operates 117 acute care beds and 59 continuing care beds, as well as 15 rehabilitation beds. Supporting this is a staff of over 700 dedicated health care professionals.
In 1997, Ross Memorial Hospital completed a $4.5 million self-funded redevelopment of the maternal/newborn, pediatrics, ICU and medical/surgical units. In 1998, the Health Services Restructuring Commission (HSRC) released its recommendations for hospitals across the province. For Ross Memorial Hospital, the HSRC proposed an enhancement of services and an expansion of the facility. Currently the Hospital is undergoing major construction to add new wings, new health care units and new services.
In support of this expansion, the Ross Memorial Hospital Foundation launched its major capital campaign, "Caring for Tomorrow" in June 2001, with the objective of raising $6 million in local pledges. At the launch, it was announced that pledges and gifts already totaled $4.2 million. At the close in December 2001, the campaign had well surpassed its goal at $6.461 million, by raising over $7 million for the expansion project.
