Establishment Of This Organization

“A Friend of Mine” is owned and operated by Leah Lywood. Leah was employed as a Legal Assistant for several years and with the realization of the necessity of seniors and people with disabilities requiring assistance, she decided to create a business to fulfill those needs.

For several years she assisted her grandparents and several elderly neighbours when possible. She was always very close with her grandparents and found it very rewarding caring for them.

Some of the services "A Friend of Mine" offer are light housekeeping, meal preparation, computer training, companionship (which also includes visiting nursing/retirement homes up to and including visitations outside of these facilities.), and all seasons yard maintenance.

Leah's goal is to assist seniors and people with disabilities. Also to relieve any pressure families may be feeling due to time constraints or distance from loved ones. We hope to make a difference in some of our seniors and people with disabilities lives in the community and assist them in remaining independent. “A Friend of Mine” Senior Services provides professional personal care and companionship services allowing our clients to safely remain in their own homes, senior living community, or with family. Clinical research has revealed that people stay healthier and recover more quickly from illness or surgery in the comfort of their own home. However, today's busy lifestyles can deprive family and friends of the time and energy required to keep a loved one safely at home. Fortunately, we provide the necessary assistance to meet important daily needs of all our clients.

“A Friend of Mine” is invested in the community it resides and is designed to meet the needs of the ever changing world of the aged. “A Friend of Mine” is, in part, the answer to many demands of the world of the aged, on the working family, out-of-town family, seniors living together; alone or to assist with downsizing, and special events in need of special recognition. As a business, I understand the needs of our seniors. As a parent with very close family ties, I understand the necessity of setting special time aside for those that are alone and need assistance. “A Friend of Mine” strives to accomplish these goals, in the City of Kawartha Lakes.
